Sir Andrew Burns, IHRA Chair

This year the UK takes over the chair of The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and the first conference was held in London.  Britain, having both the chair of IHRA this year and the Prime Minister’s Commission on the Holocaust will ensure, hopefully, that we see previously unseen levels of interest in post Holocaust issues here in the UK.

The conference dinner, hosted by both Secretary of State, Eric Pickles MP and Baroness Warsi was a packed event with dignitaries from around the world.  Proud moment for the UK and the Board of Deputies as sponsors.

IHRA is an intergovernmental body whose purpose is to place political and social leaders’ support behind the need for Holocaust education, remembrance and research both nationally and internationally

The Jewish Living Experience helps people to understand a little about Judaism, or a little more. We took it to the Senned in Cardiff where it has been seen by over 5000 people giving them just a little insight into Jewish life and customs.  By showing non Jewish people what Jewish life is all about we believe that we reduce ignorance, prejudice and, ultimately the fear that runs alongside racial hatred.

At our launch we were hosted by Assembly Member Mohammad Saghar, Minister for Communities and Tackling Povery, Jeff Cuthbert and dignitaries, Deputies and welcoming friends from Wales.  I’m sure this was the first time the shofar was blown in the esteemed halls of the Welsh National Assembly – hopefully not the last!
