Women in Jewish Leadership (WJL) is a project of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, supported by the Jewish Leadership Council and was established and now co-chaired by Laura with Norma Brier OBE in 2013.
WJL has evolved to implement the recommendations of the JLC Commission on Women in Jewish Leadership (CWJL), in 2012 to report on ways to bring more women into communal leadership. At the heart of these recommendations was a recognition that change needs to come both from women themselves, both individually and collectively, and from the Jewish community’s organisations and institutions.
This work has been influential in supporting a multitude of projects and charities across the Jewish community.
Most recently, Laura and Julie Sidiqi have secured funding from the government to launch a new Jewish Muslim Women’s Network, Nisa-Nashim, to both develop leaders in the communities and to bring the communities closer together.
